Walking alongside her husband was Janaki

Even the Gods peeped down,to this gallant princess, see

The silks and linen were soon to be replaced

Leaving everything for her beloved, leaving everyone amazed

Eyeing this procession from the confines of the palace

Was an unsung maiden bearing no malice

Walking alongside the couple was an acquiescent brother

Who happened to be this fair maiden’s lover

As she locked him in her eyes, before the exile

She knew this separation will last quite a while

Although the kingdom praised her elder sibling

No one acknowledged, for her too the silks and linen will lose meaning

A grief stricken wife and a sorrowful sister

Poor Urmilla didn’t even have time to grieve her mister

The kingdom was debilitating and falling

Duty towards the kingdom was her only calling

Bharat, left the throne empty, grieving the injustice

Enemies around no longer thought this kingdom was a big fish

One dead, one banished and one heart broken

Words spread like fire as they were spoken

So Urmila with Shatrughan strengthened their border

Relieving the problem, restoring the peace and order

When she was tired putting on a brave face

She retreated in her chambers, painted and read for days

Eventually the years,slowly but,tumbled by

A strong woman was she now, with her stature high

She was now counted among the most learned in the nation

The Gurus she admired as a child, valued her opinion,to her elation

The D-day came painstakingly slow, but at last

The true ‘Janaki’ who graciously gave it up,for Siya, so fast

Had now grown into a woman, who had lived her life for others

But in her way made it her own without any visible bothers

The audacious OTHER she will always remain

But that’s only if, you in the mainstream remain.
