Out in the village of Champaran lived she

Yes,the very place from where she had to flee

Her tale today is not brought to light

But,is essential as many share her plight

Ratna, young & beautiful, draped in red

Came to a poor farmer’s family newly wedded

She cared for everyone and won each heart

And in a few days she became a sweetheart

Everything went smoothly for a week

Then the patriarch died, but he was already weak

For her this was the end of her life’s happy phase

As she had to now ample of problems face

To refill her eyes with some more tears

Her husband acquired cancer, her deadliest fear

Curses & Blames from surrounding men

Shattered her, they called her an Evil Woman!

Then the baby growing in her womb

Before coming to the world went to the tomb

Every face turned away from her

People found it just, to see her suffer

Then for her came one more unlucky day

When the next of her kin on the deathbed lay

She was pelted with stones from all around

Wounded, defeated & tired; she lay on the ground

This was the day when people openly got the right

To injure her, hit her, abuse her with all their might

With shackles of strength remaining, she flee

From the village of Champaran where lived she.
